What is Digital photgraphic manipulation?

Put simply, Photographic manipulation is the art of putting an image through some kind of editing software and altering certain aspects of the photograph to achieve a desirable outcome. The types of things we alter are ...

  • Colour and saturation
  • Lighting
  • Body enhancements (Tooth repair, blemish removal, breast alteration, tattoo addition / removal, addition of fantasy elements like wings , pointed ears, eye alteration
  • Environment, be in a garden, a volcanoe, in space or underwater, anywhere.

But Im not photogenic !

Well if you say so it's probably true.
At least in the case of photos taken by friends or family, happy snaps and the like. When you are dealing with proffesional artists we know how to make it work. The right angle light and pose makes all the difference in the world.

We are creating a character so if you ( the model ) can step out of your own skin for the time it takes to press a shutter button and embrace the character you are portraying, the result will invoke a more emotional response

The initial photo is the basis of what we work with, but the real magic is in the digital editing and painting. You may have a chipped tooth, or acne, a nose that you're not happy with (for whatever reason), You might want to shave some inches off those thighs, iron out cellulite or scars. No one's perfect, except ( insert celebrity of the moment here).
But Knightware Studios is not about reality, we are about making you look Fantastic.
(fantastic   adj.   1.   absurdly fanciful   2.   Designed in a very imaginative style.    3.    (informal)   very remarkable, excellent.
)

If you are still paranoid about your ability to model,
Have a drink.

Can you work from an actual photo?
Yes, if that is all you have, or are able to get.
In the past we have done portraits of loved ones who have passed and in most cases no digital photos exist so we can work with them, and that's fine except we are limited by size. When we scan photos it creates much bigger file sizes than digital photos. They are slower to work with, so going poster size is not an option we suggest. They can also become grainy and require filters that has the undesirable side effect of turning people into plastic looking dolls.
We may be able to use negatives but at this time we don't know how that will work yet since that has never come up, but there is always a first time. Another reason that we would prefer digital shots is, well firstly they are fast, convenient, and you know you have a good or bad shot instantly. But secondly, and more importantly for us, is that the photo has to be taken "in context" of the final piece. To try and explain this, if you want a photo of someone as a faerie holding a glowing ball, I doubt you will be able to find a picture of that person in that pose, plus we have to photograph hands separately to get the lighting right.

How long does it take?
There are a few things you need to consider when working how long it will take. Some are, whether or not there a re costumes involved, how quickly and easily the poses are achieved. We have performed photo shoots in under 5 minutes for the less complex images, and up to an hour whilst achieving a multitude of images and ideas to work with." But I wanted to know how long it will take for me to have my picture (s)" I hear you say?
Up to 7 days. It doesn't take 7 days to make an image, but after about a week there will be around 20 images for you to choose from. What do we do with the left-over images? Click Here

How much will it cost?
For a more detailed look at our prices use the prices link up the top of the page. But since your here, this is why we are so cheap. There is only one employee, me. There is only one boss, me. There is only one photographer, me. And so on. I have no sales people to pay commisions to, that is what the websites are for. There is no flashy studio, I'll come to you. I contract out the printing and framing to professionals, that is cheaper than having to do everything myself like I have in the past, they pay for their own mistakes and I don't have to pay for upkeep of machines and supplies. Lastly and probably most importantly for our my customers, I am a starving multimedia and arts student desperate for money so, I'll pretty much drop my pants and sing for food.
Payments can be in barter for services, cash, cheque, money order or direct deposit in my account. All payments other than cash or barter, incurr a 11% fee for GST

Working with kids?
In case there is any concern about a stranger working with kids, firstly I never work with kids without their parents being in the room at all times. If costumes are required, the parents dress them in private, then when the shoot happens I will basically only straighten stuff or flick hair into position and the like. Whilst teaching photoshop at TAFE I was required to get police clearance,

What do you do with your redundant images ?
OK so no one has ever asked this, but it's handy to know. After each job, we are left with alot of images that the customer didn't choose for one reason or another. Knightware Studios reserves the right to use any image for created for promotional purposes unless stated to the contrary by the client. Secondly these images are available for sale to you, (and only you) for a discounted price, since the work has already been done. To retain continuity in quality we keep all printing rights so nothng is provided to you digitally. Our printers provide the highest quality in photographic reproduction and we cannot have our name assosciated with anything lower than the best.
<< Back to the questions >>
Who are you really ?
Knightware Studios is David Knight a fantasy artist with over 15 years experience in photography and Fantasy art, and. Now a mature age Tafe student studying multimedia and design. Ok so whenever I've said we and us, I meant me and I, it's just a way of sounding bigger than "we" really are, in a corporate sense.

Where are you ?
I am living in Adelaide at the moment, hopefully things will grow to a point where I can move to the east coast
<< Back to the questions >>
I don't live in Adelaide, can I still use your service?
Absolutley, We can communicate through email and you can either post a cd of the photos you have taken, or send them throught the email.

Costumes?
Since expense is usually at a minimum we don't really use costumes. Hire of the sort of costumes I would use cost a hefty amount for both hire and deposit. Though if money is not so much a problem with our client we can get costumes though much consultation beforehand wil be nesscesary.
<< Back to the questions >>
I've noticed a bit of nudity on your site, are you a perve?
Im an artist.

Can I pay it off ?
Absolutley. Although nothing gets printed until the entire balance is paid.

Do I have a choice of frames?
Absolutley, I have to go and buy it anyway so you may as well tell me what you want.
<< Back to the questions >>
How are the images printed ?
The images are not actually printed. Not like traditional inkjet, bubbljet, laser, offset, screen or anything like that. They are developed, just like a photo, on quality Fujji or Kodak paper. This way less damaged can be caused by light, they wont scratch or lift and peel like ink on glossy paper. They are generally more durable have a nice soft satin finish just like a photo and can be blown up to poster size.

Are copies available at a cheaper price ?
Of course. Although nothing is provided to you digitally, as we have to retain quality control on printed images. We will not have the knightware studios name associated with anything less than the best!
<< Back to the questions >>
What discounts are available ?
Youl'll have to ask me at the time, Sometimes I am more desparate than other times. But generally I try to go as low as I can since I want all your friends and amily to be customers too. A happy customer is good advertising.
